Knight Marketing (an Imprezzio company), a 20-year marketing firm with several U.S. locations, seeks a managing director who will be based in its Sarasota, FL location, where he/she will directly manage a team of marketing professionals. The managing director will report to the president in Spokane, WA. As a senior leader of the agency, he/she will contribute to success in all of the agency’s locations and be responsible for functions including general marketing agency services, business development, major account team leadership, client retention and growth, top-level client relationships, and bottom-line accountability for assigned expense categories. As the on-the-ground agency leader, he/she will also serve as its face in the Sarasota market and beyond.
Essential Functions
  • Develops, executes and continually optimizes a strategic business plan focusing on revenue growth, and raising the agency’s profile within key markets
  • Pursues the development of new business leads, contacts and presentations; develops new business proposals and pitches; seeks opportunities to expand services to existing clients
  • Cultivates long-term, top-level relationships and confidence with clients, industry leaders and the business community
  • Engages deeply in the local and regional market including networking, publishing thought leadership, speaking engagements, community involvement and philanthropy
  • Participates with team members in all locations in the generation of creative ideas and strategies
  • Reports regularly to the president regarding new business activity and revenue forecasts
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Sarasota office, including budgeting, scheduling, outside resource cultivation, resource allocation, motivational leadership and shaping the culture of the office
  • Supports the HR department in the hiring, development and retention of local staff so team members align with agency culture and client needs. Provides feedback and input to the president and HR on staff performance management and compensation; participates in staff performance feedback discussions.
  • In collaboration with the agency president, anticipates and/or responds promptly to any internal or external issues to ensure such problems do not endanger critical relationships with employees, clients or partners
  • Leads by example by exhibiting candor, vigilance, ingenuity, drive and tenacity; and by being respectful, accountable, loyal, open-minded and having integrity
  • Demands and maintains a high standard of excellence in the agency’s work products and client service
  • Understands clients’ needs and expectations, and works proactively to exceed them

  • Builds rapport and positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, and executive management
  • Collaborates effectively with other agency leaders in other offices
  • Displays calm under pressure; helps the team stay grounded and focused during periods of intense pressure or uncertainty
  • Possesses a strong sense of urgency and adapts quickly to change
  • Is willing to take risks and be collaborative in decision-making. Exercises good judgment.
  • Does not micro-manage; empowers and supports staff while reinforcing accountability and responsibility
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, or business-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in an advertising or marketing agency environment including extensive leadership and supervisory experience. 
  • Strong experience and track record in business development prospecting, networking and pitching. 
  • Must have a solid understanding of basic accounting and business finance as well as legal contracts.
